Pick a spot.

As you all know, I love lazy weekends. Enjoying that first hot cup of coffee while E runs from room to room spreading toys about is one thing I enjoy on the weekend. All though the morning is all about lounging around we do have other plans and have accomplished many things this weekend.

R cooks breakfast, which is usually a second breakfast for E and I. We are both hungry as soon as our eyes open. The last couple Sundays my brother has joined us for breakfast too. And this morning he cleaned my kitchen! Thanks again lil bro.

Today, we have plans to see M and go to the mall. I am SO excited to FINALLY use the gift certificate I won for Your Plate Or Mine. Painting is a past time I don't do enough of anymore. An hour or two to think of nothing else but what color I'll splash on next is going to be great! I am also excited to see the sun today and don't mind the few flakes falling from the sky because it's so bright blue!

I do not feel a bit guilty for indulging in a nap or picking up my yarn and crochet hook. Because yesterday we accomplished some cleaning and organizing. I tackled the pile of mail and paperwork that I couldn't ignore any longer. It felt great to sort through bills, toss envelopes and file the keepers. We are eventually planning on going digital and scanning in old paperwork and tossing the paper. Less clutter, less stress!

I read an excellent article in Woman's Day magazine about clutter and getting organized. Maybe this is what prompted me to sort some of ours. One of the best tips was, "It only takes 5 to 10 minutes to attack a counter or a single drawer. When you have a free moment: while you are on the phone or waiting for water to boil,  declutter a small area."

Finding time to do things like this is really just a matter of taking advantage of the 5-10 minute windows that we don't see. Or maybe spending less time mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.  Think of all the things you could accomplish. I suggest taking one step at a time. Some days I feel overwhelmed and do not know where to start. As my husband says, "pick a spot." Having a goal in mind works well too. I tell myself, "Okay, I am just going to fold this basket of laundry. I take a break and then pick one other thing, always rewarding myself with something I enjoy doing more.
