We three campers!

If you read my previous post you already know how much I anticipated the weekend away. I was looking forward to a little vacation with VERY high hopes. So, I'm hear to tell you all about our camping extravaganza.

Friday
I, with some very appreciated help from Maddi, was able to successfully pack our bags, make breakfast burritos for Saturday AM, pack the cooler and fill the car all before 5 o' clock when Ryan would officially join us for our vacation weekend. Small mishap: I dropped the pillows on the ground so the pillow cases were a little dirty. Ooops! But, camping is dirty anyways...guess we started a little bit early.

Traffic headed north was not as bad as anticipated. We filled the car with gas and rolled into Hill and Hollow Campground a little after 6 o' clock; plenty of time to set up our home away from home a.k.a. tent. Poor Ryan struggled A LOT with the borrowed tent (that came with posts and no stakes). Even with donated tent stakes it wouldn't stand. After a bit of frustration he decided rope from the campground store would do the trick. And it did!

The rope became the perfect clothes line!

After setting up and a delicious meal supplied by Mom, hobo dinners: burger patties, potatoes, onions and carrots wrapped in tinfoil and cooked over the fire, we sat around the fire and roasted marshmallows. Small mishap number two: our camper friends (my sister and brother in-law) hungry dog devoured the graham crackers. So another trip to the campground store cost us $4 for a box of 10 graham crackers. :O But, those s'mores sure tasted yummy!

Friday night neighboring campers kept us awake til almost 3am. Apparently 11:00 quiet time meant nothing to them. But, the air mattress we borrowed from my brother was VERY comfortable. Once I was asleep, I was asleep.

Saturday
We woke up to the birds.... SQUAWKING! The crows were in the trees RIGHT outside our tent. Not the most pleasant way to wake up but starting the day early gave us more time for fun and games. The breakfast burritos I put together the day before turned out pretty good. The potatoes were a bit dry but the eggs and sausage were perfect! Even Maddi ate one!

Saturday was an all day pool day. I think I watched Maddi do 50 canon balls into the  pool. I'd say she is like a fish but fish just swim. This girl swims, dives, jumps in and out 100 times and then keeps swimming. She has come along way from last year when she was just learning to swim. She still plugs her nose when she jumps in but last year she had to have Dad catch her.

Saturday night was game night! We played bocce ball around the campground. If you haven't played I recommend you try it! Park and Sun BB-109 Bocce Pro Set - 109mm This is a game that even pregnant girls can have fun playing! We laughed a lot as you never know how the game will turn out.

Right before dark we decided to squeeze in a game of mini golf. The course at the campground is really neat; full of bridges, water falls, hills and crazy obstacles. My brother, Maddi, Ryan and I all had a bunch of fun! I think it's a tradition we started a couple years ago. We don't seem to improve year by year but it gets more and more fun.

Sunday
Get up and Go! We slowly awoke...to only a few crows...and bustled about getting the cars packed up to return to Grand Haven. Packing up isn't as fun a setting up. The feeling that the weekend is over really sets in. We had a quick breakfast at The Galley, a small cafe that serves lunch and breakfast pool side at the campground and then let Maddi do a couple more cannon balls into the pool before leaving our home away from home.

And what a crazy fun filled weekend. We had a bit of stress when trying to make decisions as a whole group but looking back on the weekend I can say it was a good one! Great weather, great company, great food, great weekend.

Keep loving.
