I've decided Sundays are officially my FAVORITE days to wake up. And when Maddi is with us, Saturdays are equally great. And here's why:
I. I could choose any day of the week to sleep in -- because I work nights -- but Saturday and Sunday are by far the best days to sleep in. Because, I wake up to Ryan still sound asleep beside me. On these days he gets to sleep in too. He always sleeps just a few winks longer than I, so I get to cuddle into his side and wrap my arms around him. On these mornings I am truly lucky to gaze upon my husband, best friend, lover and enjoy the quietness of our bedroom.
II. Most mornings I will wander around the apartment accomplishing little. Other mornings I will mosey about performing mindless tasks: laundry, dishes, dusting, tidying our movie extravaganza mess from the previous night...BUT on Saturdays and Sundays I lay and bed and listen for Maddi. She is definitely more awake than her father and I by now and is probably, most likely playing her "Nintendo DS I", as she likes to call it (because of the tiny I in the corner of the logo).
She is so involved with her game that she hasn't noticed her Dad who is halfway into her room now. Im hiding around the corner with my hand over my face, trying to muffle a laugh as I watch him army crawl inch by inch as cautious as possible. As soon as Maddi notices him, he JUMPS up and pounced on her like prey. Only to cuddle and tickle her like crazy. And she giggles and kicks and yells for help. I absolutely love moments like this. Seeing them playfully love one another.
III. Weekend mornings also mean homemade breakfast. Ryan usually tries to duck out of the cooking roll and tells me I'm doing the mixing, flipping and frying. But I never do. Breakfast is always so much better when he makes it. Pancakes by Ryan are my favorite. He always adds just enough cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Bacon or sausage usually comes along with the homemade cakes too!
IV. Weekends are meant for being lazy. Weekend mornings with Ryan and Maddi are always great because we take our time, bum around in our pajamas and bed hair a little longer than normal, without a care in the world. Maddi's playful nature has us all laughing and gets us just a little to rambunctious.
But these mornings are without question, my favorite.
