Tiny toads

Some people are just amazing.

Does that sound sarcastic? Because being in the Restaurant/Food industry all day, every day can make a person rather sarcastic. Especially when it comes to communicating and dealing with a diverse group of people a lot.

But....I'm not being sarcastic when I say some people are just amazing. I open my blog today with this statement because Ryan and I met another wonderful couple today. Id say that is the 3rd memorable couple I've met this summer.

I'm not sure if it's my job or my personality that allows me to have lengthy, quality conversations with wonderful people that come to have a relaxing dinner at a table I serve. But I have been blessed by these encounters and conversations with older married couples.

I've met couples that live in the mountains in California with a view of the ocean from their home, who rides horses through the mountains on a daily basis, couples who have been together for years and have such a different view of life. That old fashioned sense of slowing down and enjoying the scenery. I've met couples with children who find my open-minded approach to my "bonus daughter" (my new favorite term) surprising but understandable.

The couple Ryan and I met today were floating around the pool talking about the mini frogs that had gotten caught in the "giant pond." The wife so sweetly asked the husband to try and save a lil one that was still moving. He scooped him up and put the tiny frog on the cement. And his wife hoped he still had a chance.

I sat at the edge of the pool letting my feet dangle in the refreshing water thinking about how I hope Ryan and I can be just like this old wrinkled couple when we grow up. I want to still enjoy a dip in the pool but cherish that precious time to talk of tiny toads and things.

I learn so much from older generations that grew up in a different era and have values that make them trustworthy, faithful and honest. Yet, another few reasons why I want to be just like the couple swimming in the pool.

Keep loving.
