Let Me Tell You About This Ladder

Do you know the feeling you get when you when your dream become a reality? You finally get what you've been dreaming of? It's exciting, isn't it?! Making an idea come to life is what I live for. I love the feeling of being able to turn an idea into something real and tangible. That's what happened with the blanket ladder. Let me tell you about this ladder...

I had this idea in my head for quite awhile. I have really really REALLY wanted a blanket ladder for a few years now, maybe longer. I've collected photos on Pinterest, bookmarked ideas on Instagram, browsed booths at antique shops looking for that perfect wooden ladder. Some prices were more than I wanted to spend so I reminded myself it wasn't a necessity and kept the idea in the back of my head.

I can't be sure but I think a lot of people wanted blanket ladders at that time because wooden, antique ladders are not cheap. At least $40 to $100 for a ladder that will just lean on a wall doesn't feel cheap to me. During the time I was pining for this ladder I knew I'd get one and not by spending money that would be better spent on clothes, food, the electric bill...you get the picture.

So one day at the beginning of  this Spring I decided to ask my Dad if he had an old wooden ladder. I don't know what it was that made me think to ask him but that idea popped into my head and I asked him. Turns out he did. He said he had one out on the property that he couldn't use anymore because it wasn't safe. And just like that my search for a blanket ladder was over.

After talking to my Dad again I found out the best part: The ladder belonged to my Papa Karl. *Draw drop* I was so excited to find this out I almost cried.

Both my Papa Karl and Dad are builders. My Papa Karl used the ladder to build homes along the Michigan lake shore. Turns out my Dad inherited it when my Papa Karl died. My Dad used it in the same way for a time until it wasn't safe to use anymore.

Now I know the real reason why I didn't buy a random ladder at an antique shop and the real reason why having a blanket ladder was just an idea for so long. I was meant to have this ladder.

So, I scrubbed the ladder with dish soap and elbow grease, let it dry out and now my favorite family heirloom is leaning on the wall in my living room. No more looking at pictures and dreaming about it. It's real.

Keep loving.
And dreaming.
